JSA has collaborated with the Navy on a number of housing projects, providing a number of challenges peculiar to military housing. We put our private sector residential and hospitality design experience to use to create these successful, regionally-sensitive developments.
The U.S. Navy requested a master plan to set the standard for the future development of the base. After completing a master plan that included residential family housing, Bachelor Enlisted Quarters (BEQ), and hospitality-based Visitor Quarters (VQs), we started phasing in 800 units deploying various configurations.
Our goal for the 100-unit family housing program was to create an environment that felt like a traditional suburban neighborhood, drawing design cues from a rapidly growing community in what had been primarily a rural setting. This family-oriented development with tree-lined sidewalks, grassy yards, bicycle paths, clapboard homes, front porches, window boxes, and bay windows competes well with area subdivisions.
