Originally built in 1963, this 149 bed psychiatric hospital has experienced a number of expansions and renovations to adapt to their changing needs. JSA was brought on by AVRP, a leading San Diego based design firm, to provide mental health planning expertise for a new master plan and to address safety & security, patient dignity and environments, specialty construction and operational planning. This facility addresses the inpatient and outpatient needs of a diverse population. The master plan accommodates the current and future needs for seven distinct inpatient units. These include adult acute care, intensive care (high security), substance abuse, geriatrics, clinical decisions, mixed open unit and child & adolescents, Outpatient care has grown at a high annual rate and expanded space was defined for a multitude of treatment and therapy activities that allow easy access and appropriate separation from inpatient services.
