Shands Jacksonville, a 733-bed affiliate of the University of Florida and Shands Healthcare, is a rapidly growing institution in the healthcare capital of the South. A merger with an adjacent hospital required a consolidation and reorganization of patient care services.
JSA planned and designed the multi-phase renovation and expansion of the existing Emergency Department. The expanded department includes new waiting areas, intermediate care treatment areas, a fast-track clinic and required support space. The expansion added 10,000 square feet and remodeled 27,000 square feet of space.
JSA facilitated the planning effort to consolidate nursing units between two adjacent campuses. Acute Care and Critical Care nursing units were brought to the main campus. Sub-acute units were consolidated on a satellite campus. The consolidation was staged to occur over three fiscal years and is currently in implementation.
