This is a new 2-story K-8 school designed as a school within a school - three separate wings each containing grades K-8. The brick building accommodates 1,500 students and includes: classrooms, a media center, dining room, multi-purpose room, gym, band room, art and music rooms, kitchen and enhanced learning areas. Sustainability is inherent in the design and the project has achieved LEED gold status.. The school is also designated a Red Cross shelter able to accommodate 250 special needs occupants and 1,000 regular occupants. The core of the building is designed as an enhanced hurricane protection (EHP) area. The kitchen, dining room, multi-purpose room, special education and music rooms form the EHP area and are zoned separately from the rest of the school.
